With just hours until election day, here's the last piece of our Rockford school board candidates series, central Rockford's sub-district B.
Christina Ostergard is the incumbent. An engineer, she volunteered and was unanimously approved for the seat when a board member retired in 2005.
Her challenger is Jeanne Westholder. She's president of the District 205 Parent Council. She also taught in Rockford schools on and off for twelve years and has served on the school board's education committee.
"I'm a lifelong resident of Rockford, gives me a broad perspective to understand the issues of District 205, the Rockford public schools. I have a broad perspective as a student, a former student, a parent and a community member," says Westholder.
"I saw just how important one person can be and the difference they can make on the board. One vote is significant on the board and my vote has helped make a lot of progress over the last year and a half and I think it's important to continue that progress," counters Ostergard.
Ostergard is running as a write-in candidate because Westholder challenged her petition signatures and many proved invalid.
