Cubs Injuries

CHICAGO (AP) -- It isn't looking good for the injury-plagued Chicago Cubs.

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez has been one of the Cubs' hottest hitters during the first eight games, but he's was out of the lineup today with a swollen right wrist.

The team sent Ramirez to a hand specialist to be examined, and manager Lou Piniella says he's hoping it isn't serious.

Second baseman Mark DeRosa is also out of the starting lineup for today's game against Cincinnati. DeRosa's back locked up, but he's available for emergency duty.

Pitcher Mark Prior is scheduled to see an orthopedic specialist this afternoon after being dogged by shoulder soreness.

The Cubs' other often-injured right-hander, Kerry Wood, has already seen a specialist. General manager Jim Hendry says Wood was told he has tendinitis but doesn't need surgery.
