Rutgers Team On Oprah

CHICAGO (AP) -- Oprah Winfrey says she's proud of the Rutgers University women's basketball team for handling themselves with "such grace" when they became the target of a radio host's insulting remarks.

Ten members of the Rutgers team and coach Vivian Stringer appeared via satellite on Winfrey's show this morning.

The team is at the center of an uproar that began when Don Imus referred to the players as -- quote -- "nappy-headed hos" on his radio show.

The Rutgers coach says her team is holding up well because they have each other and the support of the American people.

But player Essence Carson says Imus took away from everything her team has accomplished. Carson says it's sad that they've been forced to deal with his negative remarks rather than focus on their success on the court.
