Corn Planting Nearly Two-Thirds Complete in Illinois

The Illinois Agriculture Statistics Service says about 64 percent of the crop is planted. That's way ahead of last year when 40 percent of the state's corn was planted by the fourth Sunday in April.

Stark County farmer Tim Green says he started planting his 1,600 acres just 12 days ago. He says the corn he planted that first day, April 13, was sprouting Monday morning.

Much of the state got some needed rain over the weekend. Brian Mapes of Stockton in northwestern Illinois says his area received about two inches last week, which has slowed planting some. He says only about 200 acres of corn have been planted on his family's farm.
