Rockford College students are trying to make sure Stateline families have a full meal this Thanksgiving.
The student athlete advisory committee went door-to-door collecting canned goods to donate to area charities. They gathered about 67-hundred last year. And 23 News has been told they are fairly close to that same goal.
Garret Staniec said, "It's really important especially in times like today because people don't have. People have less to give. So give as much as you can because we're in it for each other. This is our little community out here, so these cans go right to our community members."
Local food pantries say they need more help now than ever due to high unemployment and growing number of families losing their homes.
