SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation say they're easing up on construction projects this holiday weekend to make sure motorists have a smoother drive.
I-DOT spokesman Milt Sees says officials are making sure travelers aren't held up in construction zones. He says roadwork will be suspended and lanes will be opened up where possible.
State officials have several recommendations for drivers before they hit the road.
Motorists should tune up their engines, check tire inflation and use the recommend grade of motor oil.
State officials are also urging drivers to not exceed the posted speed limit.
