A judge is the only stop in banning Ephedra. A ban on the herbal stimulant Ephedra is expected to go into effect Monday. This once popular weight loss and bodybuilding drug has been linked to 155 deaths and dozens of heart attacks and strokes.
Last month, the maker of Ephedra brand products, filed a lawsuit to block the ban. The Company says the Food and Drug Administration hasn't proven that Ephedra is dangerous if used as directed.
A federal judge is expected to rule tomorrow on a request for a temporary restraining order. Ephedra sales have already plummeted because of the news about the risks.
