A state grant could transform a contaminated site in south Beloit into the city's next big commercial development.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $120,000 to south Beloit to aid cleanup efforts at the former Beloit and Godall oil foundry. The city bought the land after the company closed a few years back. It's located at Highways 75 & 2.

The old foundry is being torn down and grant money will help clean up soil contamination, then the land will be ready for redevelopment.

South Beloit Mayor Randy Kirchkow says three different developers have expressed interest in buying the property, which sits on the most traveled intersection in south Beloit.
