Economic Strain of Pet Food Scare

Right now, those of us with pets are fearful of giving our animals poisoned food. Some Stateline pet owners say they're also suffering an economic strain.
Ruth and Chris Corcoran have 18 cats and ten dogs. It takes a lot of food to keep up with their animals' needs!
The Corcorans say they weren't sure which foods were safe, so they began calling the phone number listed on all wet pet food they buy.
They say now their wallets are hurting as well as their peace of mind.
"I took 100 cans of food back to Wal-Mart. You know they're 41 cents a can, I'm having to buy this, so this is more expensive," says Ruth Corcoran.
Sixteen cats and dogs have died in the United States from food, authorities say, contained rat poison. Sixty million cans of pet food produced by Menu Foods and sold under 95 brand names have been recalled. Head to www.menufoods.com/recall for more information about the recall.
