Freeport Township has initiated a unique fund-raising campaign to pay for essential services for seniors and underprivileged residents in the area.
The township was forced last year to cut its emergency assistance program. So The Human Services Fund, a not-for-profit foundation, is planning fund-raisers like raffles and spaghetti suppers to raise money.
Chairwoman Nickee Bender says the group hopes to raise $2,000 from a dinner scheduled for March 31.
