High School Gun Scare

Hundreds of Hononegah High School students left school early today fearing for their safety.

Rumors of a school shooting or hostage crisis made there way into Hononegah High school but right now Rockton Police and the Hononegah School District are saying that students were not in danger this afternoon, despite rumors of a school shooting scheduled for this afternoon during 6Th period classes.

Local police caught wind of them Thursday evening. Investigation into the alleged threats found no weapon or threat of weapons inside the school and classes continued on schedule but that wasn't enough for many concerned parents. Hundreds of students started their spring break a bit early as parents picked them up long before the bell rang this afternoon.

They claim frantic text messages and cell phone calls kept the vague rumors circulating through the halls and the fears of Hononegah High. Again, Rockton Police and the Hononegah School District insist the rumors were false though they do believe the drama probably stemmed from a fight between two students in the lunchroom earlier this week.

Students did identify another student as a possible source of the threat. Police say there is no evidence to tie him or anyone else to the rumors.
