More money is going to improve our state's road system. It's part of Gov. Blagojevich's plan to create jobs and target projects that help start additional economic development.
Timothy Martin of IDOT says the bonds would be paid off with future road-fund revenue like gas taxes and license-plate fees. The bulk of the payments wouldn't be made until 2010.
Opponents say the plan would only pass debt along to future generations. Blagojevich will detail his full road plan and capital improvements budget next week.
