A majority of Illinoisans support civil unions compared to legalizing gay marriages. That's according to a Copley News Service poll. It found that 60 percent of Illinois residents don't want to legalize gay marriages.

Twenty-seven percent said they'd support it and 13 percent were undecided. Those same people said they'd support civil unions, which would give same-sex partners some legal rights.

Thirty-three percent said they oppose civil unions and 17 percent were undecided. The poll consisted of 625 registered voters and has an error margin of four percent.
