Just over seven million people have registered to vote in next week's Illinois primary election, a big jump from four years ago.
The State Board of Elections says registration is up by more than a quarter-million people since the last presidential election, but only 26 percent of registered voters showed up at the polls in 2000.
Registration is down a bit from 2002, when Illinois was picking a new governor. It has dropped by almost 46,000 voters since then.
Election officials estimate that seven million eligible people remain unregistered in Illinois.
