State Test Comes Earlier

Next year high school juniors will have less time to prepare for a state exam. The Illinois Board of Education says the Prairie State Achievement Exam will be administered in March. It's usually taken the end of April.

The board says the change is necessary to meet the demands of the federal No Child Left Behind law.

Also a private contractor needs more time to score and analyze the exam. Last year some schools didn't get their results until well into the school year, but educators are critical. They think the earlier test date will lower scores.
