New legislation could require fire sprinklers in all college dorms.
The proposal would provide funding for Illinois' colleges and universities to install sprinkler systems in dorm rooms.
Sprinklers can cost more than $2.00 per square foot. That means a school like Illinois State University would pay more than $1 million to equip its 3,800 dorm rooms.
