The U.S. Supreme Court turns away an appeal over the secrecy surrounding government detentions in the wake of 9/11.

Hundreds of foreigners, nearly all of them Arabs or Muslims, were detained in the months after the terror attacks. Many of the more than 700 detainees at issue in the case have since been deported.

A Washington think-tank sued to learn the names of the detainees, along with other basic information that the Bush administration withheld.

Other news organizations also asked the high court to hear the case, but the court Monday turned down the request to consider whether the government improperly withheld the information.
