Big growth means big changes for the North Boone School district. Tuesday night, seven board members cast their vote on where the district is headed.
About 740 students will be moved due to the board's decision. It was expected the superintendent's reconfiguration would pass and it did. Under the plan, Pre-K – 4th will go to Manchester, Capron and Poplar Grove Elementary School. 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th will move into North Boone High School and Elementary School. Then, High School students will be in a brand new facility.
Tuesday’s decision didn't come easy as board members question where money for this plan would come from. Parents against the plan were hoping the vote would be laid over. For others the plan is a way for their child to succeed.
From here, an implementation team will form to work out the kinks. Bus routes, start times and teacher configurations all need to be addressed. The group will have from January to June to create a finalized plan for the 2004/2005 school year.
