For many soldiers, the desire to bring Saddam Hussein down was a reason to fight. Many local military members have played a huge role in this new Iraqi freedom.
Just as the 4th Infantry Division continues to patrol now, Poplar Grove resident Noah Currier walked the same streets in Tikrit. Noah's reconnaissance unit was one of the first occupying forces in Tikrit this past April.
The unit’s responsibility was to map out the land and then wait for Army units to take over. Knowing the lay of the land in Iraq is difficult. With first hand knowledge, Noah says Saddam could have been anywhere.
The military believes Saddam had up to 30 such crawl spaces throughout the region.
