Suspected Gang Shooting in Boone County
Investigators say two suspected gang members shot a male walking down the street, inside Candlewick Lake's gated community.

August 5, 2009
On Tuesday August 4, 2009 (1:48 PM) the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 block of Marquette in Candlewick Lake, Poplar Grove for a subject that had just been shot. Upon deputies arrival they observed a male subject that had been shot in the back while walking along Marquette. The victim was transported by Capron Rescue to St. Anthony Hospital where he was treated and released.
The following persons were arrested:
Alan Reyna, age 18, of Belvidere, was charged with Aggravated Battery with a firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Mario A. Brown, age 18, of Des Plaines was charged with Aggravated Battery With a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
It appears the shooting was gang related. Both subjects are currently in custody in the Boone County Jail.
During the arrest of Reyna, and Brown the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Belvidere Police Department and the Illinois State Police.

For you to say that this was caused because of people on Section 8 is a prejudiced thing to say.Do you know for sure that the families of these 2 individuals are on Section 8 or are you just saying that because neither is white?I know one of the young men in question and he was giving someone a ride to where he thought they lived.He had no idea this person had a gun or was there to harm someone.He is not in a gang and has never been in any trouble of any kind with the law.He has been cooperating with the police and turned himself in because he was not there to do harm to anyone.Furthermore,both his parents have good jobs and are not on Section 8.I can understand being angered by increasing violence in the community,but don't blame Section 8 or the state,as this sad situation has nothing to do with either.
