University of Wisconsin regents voted unanimously today to raise tuition for in-state undergrads by eight percent for the upcoming school year.

Tuition for out of state students will increase 13 percent.

The tuition hikes are expected to generate $40 million for the system. That'll help offset about $44 million in cuts to the UW system proposed by lawmakers.

Tuition at most UW campuses would increase from nearly $2,800 to $3,000. UW Madison's tuition would increase to nearly $3,900, from almost $3,600.

UW Milwaukee would rise from nearly $3,500 to about $3,700.
