An armed robbery turned out to be a false alarm at a Rockford restaurant overnight, but money still turned up missing.
It happened just after midnight on the Popeye’s on East State Street, when police got a call that the restaurant had fallen victim to an armed robbery.
After investigating police found that money was stolen, but not in an armed robbery.
In fact the employee who made the call, 22-year-old Shondora Thompson, was actually the one who stole the money.
Thompson is being held in the Winnebago County Jail on $10,000 bond. Police are still investigating because they think others may be involved.
