Federal agents have arrested a man who they say was planning to attack shopping centers in Rockford during the holidays.
Several reports have indicated that a man was planning to detonate hand grenades in malls and shopping centers in the Rockford area. The plot involved placing the grenades in garbage cans and possibly a shooting. Chicago authorities arrested the suspect this morning. The FBI does not believe the man was working with a terrorist group... He was planning to act alone. So the FBI says this arrest eliminates the risk of the attacks being carried out.
The man is being reported as a 22 year old US citizen. His name has not been released yet.
