You can find them in vacant lots, parks, even in the middle of the road. Many candidate's campaign signs are breaking the law.
"You're not allowed to in the street or sidewalk or the area between the street and sidewalk because that's public property," said, Nancy Strain, Rockford Board of Elections.
Rockford police won't even try to find who set up illegally placed signs. All they will do is what we can do... take them down.
"The main thing to do if you find a sign you think is wrong is to call the republican party or the democratic party... which ever candidate is with the party and ask them to remove them."
Some campaigns have been bold enough to put their signs in people's front lawns without their permission.
"If the person happens to find signs they don't want in their yards they can take them down," Strain said.
But that's as far as it goes. Rockford police aren't enforcing any punishments for illegal signs. They don't want to get caught in the middle of partisan politics.
