It's a challenge most working moms face --balancing a career with our family life. For years many thought it would have to be one or the other. But a local company is proving that's not so and now it's getting national recognition for taking that stance.
Jennifer Wood is a tax director by day. A mother of two by night, unless of course she opts for a different schedule.
"As long as you get your hours in, you just sort of make up your own schedule - so if you have to go get your kids and take them to sports, you could do that," said Wood.
And it's that kind of flexibility that attracted Sherrie Krowczyk-Mendoza to RMS McGladrey as well. "I couldn't think of a better place to work."
The accounting, tax and business consulting firm just made Working Mother Magazine's "100 Best Companies" list. McGladrey's flexible work policy even includes a teacher-like schedule, with summers and holiday's off. The goal is to attract and retain employees - especially because 50-percent of accounting grads are female.
"They want to come to work for a place where they know eventually they can start a family and still have a rewarding career," said Wood.
As well as a career that includes advancement opportunities. Krowczyk-Mendoza made partner when she was pregnant with this little one.
"They offer me the flexibility to be able to do what I love to do with my clients, with the people here, training and mentoring people and then also spending time with my babies and my family."
