It's a chance to see our tax dollars a work the city of Rockford has kicked off it's summer road program.
Stateline residents and leaders gathered at the intersection of Rockton Avenue and Johns Farm Road near Wesley Willows to mark the beginning of a new construction project. It includes resurfacing, road widening, and adding a new turning lane on Rockton. City leaders credit the eight hundred thousand dollars they received to complete the project to Rockford's one-percent sales tax increase. Supporters of the project say its been a long time coming to make over the city's north side.
"This time we are doing this road right where it is complete no band-aid. We're not gonna get a lot of it done what we wanted to do was the whole street, but do too the money crunch we're only going to get through phase one," said Alderman Bill Timm.
The construction for the first of three phases begins in mid-June an is expected to be complete by August.
The celebration, and ribbon cutting didn't end there residents of Wesley Willows opened their doors to a new town center. The new addition to the retirement community includes a fitness center, library, private dining room, salon, and even a bank. Residents can now stay even closer to home when running errands.
