Sen. Dave Syverson along with deputy chief of staff for the Illinois Homeland Security, Carl Hawkinson, visited Swedish American Hospital. They met with hospital officials to tour the emergency department and decontamination room. They got to see first hand the new upgrades that have recently been added at the hospital in attempts to increase the ability of handling any local emergencies.
Hawkinson feels the hospital has taken positive steps in preparing for disasters. Syerson says Swedish American Hospital has taken positive steps in preparing for bioterrorism since 9/11, but the fight is still not over and more progress is being made.
