In honor of Earth Day this week, our governor was in the stateline, discussing ways to help the environment, and our wallets. Pat Quinn, and other local leaders, gathered in Rockford today, at a home that had been improved through the Illinois home Weatherization Assistance Program. Quinn announced Illinois will receive an additional 242-million dollars to weatherize low-income homes. The governor says by improving energy efficieny, homeowners can save money on utility bills, in an environmentally friendly way. He also says weatherizing homes will create more jobs, which will help build our local economy.
"I believe in fighting for consumers, and making sure we help people who live from paycheck to paycheck, and that means saving money on your utility bill," Quinn said.
Weatherization measures include insulating walls, window and door repair, weather-stripping, and furnace work. A statewide average of about four-thousand dollars is spent on each home.
