Chicago-area commuters will have an easier time on the tollway next spring. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is reallocating eight million dollars in unused toll highway authority funds.
The plan is to convert 37 tollbooth lanes throughout the system. Those booths will soon be electronic I-Pass lanes. Motorists who buy those passes can proceed without stopping.
The improvement will allow people to drive the entire tollway system without stopping to pay. It also gives more motorists incentive to buy an electronic pass since there will be fewer lanes where they can pay manually.
