Job Fair October 12th

The Workforce Connection today announced plans for a Manufacturing Job Fair, to be held Thursday, October 12th at the Rock Valley College Stenstrom Center, 4151 Samuelson Road.

More than 20 area companies have signed up for the event, co-sponsored by the Manufacturing Alliance of Rock River Valley (MARRV), the Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce Manufacturer’s Council and Rock Valley College.

“Manufacturers in northern Illinois have jobs available for skilled and experienced workers. Our hope is that this event will bring those companies and job-seekers together,” said Richard Mowris, Chairman of the Boone and Winnebago Counties Workforce Investment Board and Vice-President of Administration for Rockford Products Corporation.

The day begins with an employer breakfast to highlight the many services available to area companies. Congressman Donald Manzullo is one of the scheduled speakers at the breakfast.

“As I travel across northern Illinois meeting with manufacturers, the number one complaint I hear is they can’t find qualified workers to fill their job openings,” Manzullo said. “This job fair will help pair up those seeking work with manufacturers seeking employees while providing prospective workers with the opportunities they need to gain the skills necessary in today’s advanced manufacturing climate.”

“As manufacturing in the Rock River Valley continues to grow, companies will need skilled employees as well as employees seeking a challenging career in manufacturing,” added John Oller, Executive Director of MARRV.

The event will also feature job training and other programs designed to give workers the skills needed to apply for manufacturing jobs in the future, including educational programs offered by Rock Valley College.

"Rock Valley College has always maintained a close relationship with area manufacturers and offers educational and training programs that are delivered specifically to address their workforce needs," according to RVC Director of Economic and Business Outreach Einar Forsman.

There will also be sessions scheduled throughout the day to help jobseekers put their best foot forward in the application and interview process.

The Job Fair will run from 9am to 5pm. Students from area high schools are being invited to attend the event in the afternoon after school to see the kinds of manufacturing jobs available in the Rockford area.
