State Rep. John Fritchey says he plans to introduce legislation in January that would prevent Illinois residents from suing fast food chains, food manufacturers and distributors.

The Chicago Democrat says he is calling the law the Illinois Commonsense Consumption Act. So far, Louisiana is the only state that has adopted such a law.

The Illinois Restaurant Association says the proposed law would prevent costly and frivolous lawsuits from being filed.
