A new law allows police to pull over and ticket motorists who are not using seat belts, even if they have not committed any other violations.
Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, the Quad Cities, Quincy, Collinsville, Springfield and Carbondale participated in Sunday's drill.
Shannon Alderman, chief of safety projects for the Illinois Department of Transportation, says the enforcement zones could go to other cities.
Alderman says 201 tickets were issued in the eight cities during the event. Tickets usually carry a $50 fine, although the amount can change, depending on court fees.
