The governor has vetoed funding for cost-of-living increases for the state's judiciary. Monday he called on the state's judges to drop their efforts to get the raises.

He says the state cannot afford them in a tight budget year.

The governor's appeal follows last week's order by the Illinois Supreme Court, which said it won't compel State Comptroller Daniel Hynes to pay judges the increases. The court reversed its initial ruling.

Hynes and Blagojevich are being sued in a separate case by two Circuit Court judges. The judges contend cost-of-living increases are a basic part of their salary.
