Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka's office Tuesday said eleven people have been laid off. They were inspectors who checked to see whether businesses had any unclaimed property that should be turned over to the state.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office says about 40 people have been laid off there.
Officials have been trying to cut costs to help fill a $5 billion hole in the state budget. Gov. Rod Blagojevich added to the cuts when he used his veto power to trim the budgets of all statewide officials.
Secretary of State Jesse White has not yet laid off workers in response, but a spokesman says 200 people may lose their jobs.
