Governor Pat Quinn names a new head of the Illinois Department of Veteran's Affairs.
28-year old Dan Grant from Chicago replaces Tammy Duckworth, who's moving to a post with the Obama Administration. Grant is an Iraq War veteran and a West Point graduate. He's also a former senior advisor to Quinn. Quinn has long been a strong advocate for military members, their families and veterans. He says grant will serve their needs with integrity and dedication.
"We need Dan Grant to take us in Illinois forward to make sure that every veteran gets the kind of decent healthcare, the kind of good education, the kind of opportunity for a good job that all of us in America and all of us in Illinois want that veteran to get," says Quinn.

I hope he will emphasize mental health, including recovery from traumatic brain injury, PTSD and/or depression and suicide. I hope he will get the VA to use civilian psychologists to expand the reach of mental health services since the VA itself has such a shortage compared to the need.
