Justin Church, 27, of Janesville has been positively identified as the deceased driver in an accident that occurred at about 0230 on September 14 on Highway 59 in Lima Township. Dental records were used to provide the identification. Justin died of shock from thermal injuries he sustained in the fire that engulfed the vehicle after the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt. Autopsy findings suggest that Justin may have been unable to escape the vehicle due to injuries sustained in the crash.
His female passenger, Moriah Smith, 19, of Germantown, WI, was able to escape the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital.
The Rock County Coroner’s Office is awaiting lab results to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
