Strong straight line winds snapped trees and downed power lines throughout the city of Rockford and Freeport and several other communities.
Com Ed reports 80,000 people are without power at this time and it will be 24 to 48 hours before power is restored to all. Many intersections have malfunctioning traffic lights. Use extreme caution when driving through those intersections.
The City of Rockford says downed tree limbs have closed parts of some streets. The Public Works Department says it will take several days to clean up the streets. Use caution.
