Blagojevich cut about $5 million from the state's budget that was designated for regional superintendents, but Thursday, the governor decides against eliminating the posts.
Regional superintendents, like Dr. Richard Fairgrieves, handle school inspections and teacher certification. Supporters have argued that some schools would be unable to open without the superintendents.
Originally, the budget called for cutting all $22 million in state funding for the regional offices.
Lawmakers voted to restore about $17 million, but Blagojevich says he's used his veto powers to trim their budget some more.
