New homes are appealing to the wrong clientele because property related crimes and burglaries at construction sites are on the rise. The Ogle County Sheriff's Department has been hammering away at the problem.
Chief Deputy Greg Beitel says they need to build up their presence throughout the county but don't have the right tools. For the past two years the department has been short five officers.
"If we don't get the staff we asked for then what we're going have to do is look at where calls for service are. Maybe reconfigure what our patrol zone assignments are to get the maximum bang for people that are on the road," said Beitel.
Ogle County is the 10th fastest growing county in Illinois. The population is up to 53,686.
