A plan to bring a casino to Beloit isn't going as hoped, after the application is denied. But the Indian tribes behind the push say they will not fold .
The Bureau of Indian Affairs denied the application earlier today. Both the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and the St. Croix Chippewa Indians have been fighting for the casino since 1999. They say the current U.S. Department of Interior Secertary has a personal conflict with legalized gambling and planned to shut the application down before he leaves office this month.
The tribes hope the new Obama administration will review and overturn today's decision.
Beloit City Manager Larry Arft says the denial is a big loss to the community, especially considering the future of our economy is in a gamble of its own.
