The Harlem Community Center has been serving the stateline since 1957, and today it receives a generous gift to ensure service for another 50 years.

The James E. Lockwood Charitable Foundation gave the center $600,000. The Harlem Community Center provides social, recreational, and educational activities for children and their families. It took a three year long partnership before the funds were issued, but the community center is prepared to use the money for their long-term success.

Shannon Scheffel the Executive Director at HCC has plans for the money. "Some of it will be used to make some improvements to our soccer diamonds out at the sports complex, and also help us to establish the new childcare center that we opened in October of 2007."

To join the programs the Harlem Community Center offers or for more information about their services. Please contact them at 815-885-4862.
