Utilities say strong winds and subzero temperatures are adding to power outage headaches in central and northern Illinois.
Ameren says more than 13,000 of its costumers don't have power. Most are around Peoria.
And ComEd says it has more than 10,000 customers without power. Many are in suburbs south of Chicago.
A storm last week knocked out power to a peak of about 45,000 Ameren customers. And that number had been reduced to 5,000 customers Saturday night.
But 20-to-30 mile-per-hour winds on Saturday and Sunday damaged ice-coated power lines and utility poles. Crews often had to return to repair powerlines they'd fixed earlier the same day.
ComEd reports a similar jump in numbers of outages with the incoming cold and strong winds.
