One of Rockford's oldest buildings can now be used by anyone who wants to express their First Amendment rights.
The Winnebago County Operations Committee is allowing any group to use the building as long as they follow certain guidelines. Unlike previous decisions, Memorial Hall can be used by controversial political groups such as The Minutemen Project.
"It's a wonderful piece of history in the community and I think we should be utilizing the value of that building by allowing groups to come into the facility," says Operations Chair Patti Thayer.
Memorial Hall is dedicated to Rockford's military veterans and holds memorabilia from the Spanish-American and Civil Wars.
