The start of the new school year is just around the corner and this year Rockford leaders plan to crack down on truants and their parents. Aldermen approved a Truancy Ordinance Monday night. Children between the age of 7 and 17 will face fines and community service for skipping class. So will parents. The city will head a Truancy Code Hearing Department but paying for the enforcement still needs to be worked out.
