Thousands of Stateline families who receive Medicaid are being told they must prove they are U.S. citizens.
The Federal Government passed a law requiring everyone on Medicaid to show proper documentation. This is a first time thing, but if you don't respond by October 31st, your benefits can be removed. The Illinois federal director of Medicaid says this can get people into trouble.
Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan is filing her concerns with the federal government by August 18th. She says the new law can be very difficult on lower income families on Medicaid.
