ok lets see here you people are saying that petland is a puppymill right? well let me tell you something. i know this person i am not going to say there name but anyway they have a little girl she is about a year old. they wanted to purchase a babby pitbull from petland. now the oner makes the decision wether or not to sell it to this person. he said no because he didnt think that that dog was compatible for the family. now how can you honestly say that all petland cares about is the money??? if that was true then he would have sold that puppy to them and he wouldnt have cared if the baby got hurt. this is just my opinion but if someon that truely only cared about money did then why wouldnt he have sold this dog to them????? use your brains people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding Petland, all the positive comments about petland are surely coming from friends and family of the owner.Being involved in dog rescue for many years I have encountered countless homeless dogs that in fact were bought at the Rockford Petland.NO REPUTABLE breeder would sell thier puppies to such a place.Regardless of what the Petland owner says, those puppies do come from brokers, who get the puppies from puppymills.I have found that people who are so smitten with the local Petland are ignorant of the facts regarding the puppies sold there. If people adopted dogs from shelters there would be no need for places like Petland that are only after the almighty dollar.

Adopt an animal from the shelter who is already homeless. A shelter dog can love you just as much as a dog from Petland can, right? When you buy from them, you support SELFISH breeders (puppy mills or not) who make money off of bringing more dogs into this world where there is already an overwhelming number of homeless and unwanted animals. Walk in to Noah's Ark, they're OVERFLOWING with animals, and you're paying hundreds of dollars for a dog from a Pet store?!?

Several years ago, I was hired by Petland. Before I became an official employee, they made me work a day for free - to make sure I could handle cleaning up the feces in the cages. I was shocked at how many sick puppies they had in cages - in a location where no customers could see them. (If you walk into Petland and face the back of the store, there is a door on the right side of the store where the sick puppies were kept at that time.) Most of these puppies had Parvo - a highly contagious and deadly disease. If you purchase a puppy from Petland there is a great chance that it has been exposed to Parvo. Also, the puppies were shipped in like inventory and many appeared traumatized and skittish. Any puppy that comes from an environment like Petland is already emotionally damaged and very potentially physically ill. I chose not to work there. I felt like there was too high chance that I could transfer a virus to my own dogs from working at Petland and I could not take that risk.

No actually not all Petlands buy dogs from the same breeders. I haven't been to every Petland in the world but I KNOW that the Rockford store buys from NICE and reputable breeders. If people did research before they opened their mouth they would know that. All of the dogs go to the vet on a regular basis. By the way USDA is a national organization that sets out laws to protect animals, not support puppy mills. Petland does a good job at taking care of their animals, they even give follow up phone calls after a puppy is sold. Would someone who doesn't care about puppys and only cares about money take that much time and effort to see how the new addition of your family is doing?

I am a local breeder, who has AKC champion dogs. I have sold puppies to Petland because of the way they care for their animals and I plan to sell to them again in the future.

I also have worked at local animal shelters in the Rockford area. I have very Rarely seen animals from the local pet store. The most frequent thing we see are stray animals that have been lost or neglected by local pet owners. Most of these puppies are microchipped by the pet store and we are able to place them back with their owners. The 6 million euthanasia’s every year are not the result of pet store puppies, but by the neglect of irresponsible pet owners. The thought that a pet store could be responsible for this issue is insane! I also think that every pet deserves a home, regardless of origin.

i have two dogs at home one which was purchased at petland. Maisy, my petland puppy, developed kennel cough a few days after i brought her home. i never noticed her coughing at the store but she did cough when we got her home. i took her to one of the vet clinics that petland recomended and her medication that she needed was paid for by petland at no cost to me. Maisy recovered and she has been great ever sinse. i still take her to visit the pet counselors at petland who are like friends to me, Maisy, and my whole family. we always have so much fun when we go to petland interacting with the animals and getting to take puppies out just to hold and play with. i have had a wonderful experience at petland and could never believe that the emplyees at petland don't care about me as a customer or my puppy and the other puppies at petland. people who make rash decisions and buy puppies without understanding that puppies, like children, sometimes get sick are the ones who have bad experiences.

I have 2 animals from Petland here in Rockford. Both of which, are healthy and were when purchased. I have to wonder who's writing these negative comments, (competition stores, breeders, PETA?) I have personally dealt with Petland for over 15 years. And I certainly will in the fuure. If you got a sick dog- take it back- read your paperwork! and realize that many things contribute to an animal getting sick, stress, change of environment, change of diet (just a few). I've seen these people take in many animals from the community, that would have most likely been sent to the shelter to be put to sleep. I've also seen them give many donations to the community when people come and ask for donations for whatever their cause. Can we seriously not say anything positive about our local store? I think we can! Although, some how I don't think this letter will get posted. Because as usual the media wants you to believe whatever they do! Where's the proof? I don't believe everything I read or see!

My wife and I also bought a puppy that was sick and they said it was just kennel cough and after numberous vet visits were told the puppy had pneumonia and worms and was severly under weight. But when we called petland and told them they said they would gladly give us "another puppy". We were shocked and couldn't believe they acted as if he were just another item on the shelf. We told them "no way!" we are attached to him already and we just want them to pay the vet bills. All we got back from them was the first medicine bill of around $50 and then they just gave us the run around everytime we called after that. Then many people we talked to told us that they don't know why we bought our puppy from petland cause they always sell sick animals. We will never buy from Petland again, but we do love our dog who is now 3 years old and very loved like another one in the family, his name is "Ty".

My co-worker bought a puppy at the sterling store 3 wks ago, and the dog died on her 10 days later from liver problems. And they wont even stick to their warrantee policy.

I have worked at the local shelter. We'd constantly hear stories about people who bought pups with serious health problems from the local Petland in Cherry Valley - we even get a fair amount of returned pets that originally came from Petland. Obviously they will sell a pet to ANYone that can pay the price. I hate to see people profiting from selling pets when approximately 6 million are euthanized annually at shelters nationwide. How can a person of good conscience ignore those numbers and think of nothing but their profits?? I wished that the news reporter would have actually investigated WHERE they do get their pets, rather than just take the "word" of the owner - which is obviously going to favor themselves no matter what. Isn't that what investigative reporting is all about - getting the FACTS, not just taking the word of the subject in question? No statement was made as to what effort, if any, was put into VERIFYING what the Petland owner said.

i wish the people that were so upset with what petland may or may not be doing would spend some time to help the people of rockford who dont even have enough to eat. are we more concerned about our animals than our fellow man.
