Hours of physical labor and 60-thousand dollars in donations have paid off for one Beloit family. The Dixon's received keys to their new home today on Central Avenue in Beloit. It was built by the Beloit College Habitat for Humanity Chapter. This is the first home built by students. However the homeowner, Wanda Dixon, did help. She's also pledged to perform 250 hours of Sweat Equity for the organization.
"I never thought I'd get picked for it from Habitat to get a house. I'm grateful, and I do enjoy the house. I think they did a great job on it, building it," says Wanda Dixon.
Contrary to a common misconception, Habitat for Humanity homes are not free. They're just built without a profit and owners make payments on interest-free mortgages.
