When Ogle County voters head to the polls next Tuesday they will be asked to vote on a concealed carry referendum. The Ogle County concealed carry advisory referendum asks whether or not the state legislature should enact laws to allow citizens to carry concealed firearms. Opinion on the issue is divided throughout the county, but the majority of early voters we spoke with today support concealed carry.

"They should be able to carry them for their own safety because the way the world is today you don't know when you're going to get car jacked" says Katie Sills of Creston.

"If you pick up a copy of the Constitution it says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed and we've been infringing on that one for over 100 years." says Dick Bird of Oregon.

"I really don't think that concealed carry is a good idea. I think if you're going to have a gun it ought to be visible to other people." says Marsha Taulbee of Ogle County. The concealed carry referendum is also on the ballot for Winnebago County.

The people who jump thru all the hoops to qualify & obtain a ccw license are not the people who commit crime. This is guaranteed: Criminals voted "NO" on Tuesday. In EVERY state that has ccw, crime rates have dropped and all the dire vigilante blood-in-the-streets predictions haved proved false. CCW is good law... "An armed society is a polite society" I grew up in Oregon, IL and now hold a KY CCW license which is valid across the nation, except in IL and WI, the only 2 states that disallow ccw. Needless to say, I'll not move back to IL and I visit very rarely.

I support CCW permits for Illinois. I have a CCW permit from Utah and Florida that are good to carry in about 30 states. They have classes at gun ranges and they take about 4 or 5 hours. I live in the murder capital of the United Stated and Mayor Daley still doen't get it. Handguns have been illegal in Chicago for 20 years and just about every gang member still is carrying one on them. He needs to understand it is not the guns but these criminals that are murdering each other. Him and ROD think Illinois people must be less capable to make their own mind up on weather we should carry a weapon to protect our family from these people with no respect for life, but then again Rod and Daley have never been pro-life.

I agree with the posted comments so far,and would like to add one more thing.Voting yes on the referendum does not make it law.It is basically just an attempt to let the legislators know what we would like for them to consider. It's sort of like having our own "wish list" of proposals. So like Kenny said, atleast do a little research on the subject before you vote if you are unsure.

IMO, Concealed Carry is a good idea. It is already happening in 48 other states. In Illinois Police and Criminals are the only people that carry weapons. Shame Shame on the Legislature for feel good legislation and blaming crime on inanimate objects.

Licens To Carry (LTC). I support a validated LCT program. 48 States have a form of Shall Issue or May Issue LTC Programs. There is criteria for obtaining a LTC. Age, Background Check, Classroom Training, and Practical Range Qualification, etc... I'm a Retired Military Sargent, I had a Security Clearence,I qualified Expert in several forms of Small Arms (pistal & Rifle), I have carried arms in defense of myself and this country for 20 years. Now that I reside in Illinois, I'm not trusted to to have a LTC. Everyone benifits from LTC. No one knwos who's carrying, even the Bad Guys. History in other states proves that LTC reduces Violent Crime. 48 States can't be wrong. Vote YES in support of Concealed Carry!

I fully support all forms of concealed carry and the 2nd amendment.

My wife and I as well as our 22 year old son have concealed carry permits in Arizona. People who go through the process to obtain permits are not the people who are going to cause the problems. In fact in Az permit holders have an extremely low rate for crime far less than non permit holders. Unfounded fear is the main reason people are against concealed carry. As someone who grew up in Wisconsin I would not move back unless the state became more firearm friendly. Do your own county as well as your citizens a favor by voting for conceled carry.

It is about time someone in Illinois suggested a common sense gun law. Allowing citizens to carry openly or concealed for lawful defense is not only a basic civil right but just plain common sense.

I'm not so sure that having ordinary people carry guns is such a good idea. What if there's an accident or someone goes crazy? What if the person carrying a gun drops it and it goes off? I talked with my neighbor and she said to check out this website, www.gunfacts.info and find out the truth about all this gun-carrying stuff. I'd want to know more about this before letting ordinary people carry guns like in the wild west.

I support the lawful carry of defensive firearms. 48 states allow some form of concealed carry but Illinois and Wisconsin do not. If you have recently visited any other states, you've been walking among legally armed people that are carrying concealed firearms. That's an undeniable fact. People argue there will be shoot outs for parking spaces which is ludicrous. Indiana has allowed it's citizens to carry concealed since 1935. Yes, that's right. For over SEVENTY years! With no wild west shoot outs as some people always predict will happen if people carry guns. It just doesn't happen. What Does happen is violent crime drops immediately because criminals don't know who is armed. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gangbanger, and a wheelchair user on equal footing with a burglar. Carrying a gun is not much different than wearing a seat belt while riding in the car, or for slowing down when driving in wet or icy conditions, or for keeping fire extinguishers ready for use in my house, or why I lock the doors at night. It's about being safe and about being responsible for safety. Don't listen to the politicians who say you can't be trusted to protect yourself. They tell you that's the police's job. An attack only happens when help is not there, and the police always arrive in time to put up yellow tape. Vote for concealed carry!

You better carry. You never know when or how, like the four or five poor, murdered ladies at the Lane Bryant in Tinley Park, Illinois. They had no way of fighting back.

I think that most of the people that are against Concealed Carry are severely misinformed. Please do some research on it in other states before you vote against it. Crime rates go down a lot. If you care to research it check out www.IllinoisCarry.com there is a link to www.gunfacts.info on the homepage. Gunfacts is proven statistics on concealed carry with sources like FBI, Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and other major organizations. PLEASE at least give gunfacts a look before you vote. 48 other states have concealed carry. If someone in Indiana has a right to protect themselves & their family and they cross into IL, they are now a felon. The people with the permits will be well trained and not have a criminal record. The criminals already have guns illegally, lets even the playing field by letting the good guys have guns too.
