Supermoms Part II

I've received several emails about a Freeport mother who's not only been there for her three sons, two of whom have special needs, but she's given her time and energy to the community too.

Bobbi Hershey doesn't think of herself as a supermom, but plenty of other people do, including her three sons.

Bobbi is a school room mom, a substitute teacher, a Sunday school teacher, and a former school board member. She's helped Pearl City flood victims, volunteers at the YWCA and has served on a child abuse prevention board.

But the lives she's most impacted are those of her three sons, Benjamin, Jacob and Danny.

"We're always together. We start our breakfast together, then they come home and it's supper together, home work together. Parenting is such a short season when you think about it in the big scheme of life. You don't have children around long and we want to make the most of it,” Hershey explains.

Bobbi and her husband Todd have opened their hearts and home to eight foster children which is how they came to adopt Danny and Jacob, two energetic boys with special needs.

"I do a lot of research. Currently I’m doing research on nutrition because I think that can effect development. Don't let the outside world diagnose or treat your child. You have to be assertive you have to go with it yourself,” says Hershey.

Bobbi spends hours each week helping the boys cope and overcome their learning disabilities, and making them feel like they've always been a part of the Hershey family.
