Home sales are really on the rise. Numbers released Saturday by the Rockford Area Association of Realtors show June was an excellent month for buying your own home sweet home.
Nearly 10 percent more homes were bought in June than this time last year. This comes as a huge surprise to realtors who only saw a 3.5 percent increase in May. Rockford is doing significantly better than state and national averages.
Jim Barbagallo who is President of the Rockford Area Association of Realtors gives credit to the Rockford Public School District. He says the district's reputation has been remodeled and that has more and more people giving the public school system a passing grade.
Barbagallo states, “We're getting a lot of good news out of District 205. The evolution is happening and the watch list is one more nitch in doing so. We're seeing that happening in the housing market in 205."
About 18 percent more homes are being bought in District 205. Barbagallo says affordability and city attractions are drawing in larger amounts of homebuyers.
